The Academy is a different stream than the regular karate classes at the Sentenashi Arts. Karate for Sport ‘realizes athletic ability to externalize the spirit underlying Bushido, winning with modesty, accepting defeat gracefully, and constantly exhibiting self-control and integrity while continually discovering one’s full Martial potential.’ The main focus of the Academy is to become skillful enough to make the Provincial team and eventually, the National team to represent Canada. Students that are interested in the Academy should be 11 years or older, purple or higher who have consciously made the decision that karate is ‘their sport’ of choice. Because of this, they are willing to commit the time, energy and dedication required to be successful.
As most, Academy members are Stage 3or4 Learn to Train/Train to Train (See Karate Canada LTAD).
We should be training 10-14 hour weekly which means 3 hours on Tuesday,3 hours on Thursday and 4-5 hours on Saturday. Plus 2-4 hours of another physical activity for fitness and 2 hours of School PE.
NOTE: Supplemental training should not conflict with Regular Karate training.
