White to Yellow Belt Progression

Requirements for the Progression of  White (10kyu) to Yellow (8th Kyu)

White with Yellow stripe

– Minimum of one month training
– Successful demonstration of either (Ahone) Power Kata OR (Shodan) Guard Kata in front of the class

Half White/Half Yellow

– Minimum of two months training
– Successful demonstration of both (Ahone) Power Kata AND (Shodan) Guard Kata in front of the class

Yellow with white stripe

– Minimum of three months training
– Successful demonstration of (Taikyoku Shodan)
– Treasure Map in front of the class

Yellow Belt

– Minimum of four months training
– Successful demonstration of Pinan Nidan grading Kata in front of the class. Once a student progresses through all of the levels described above, they will receive a letter for a formal grading done on a special date and time (usually Saturday afternoons)
*Grading and promotion fees apply.

Note: The opportunity to challenge oneself for the next level is offered on the last Saturday of every month ONLY. The purpose is to nurture and develop the students’ confidence needed to successfully complete the formal grading to solid yellow belt.
